The new Las Vegas monorail is one of the most innovative, futuristic transportation systems worldwide, and Gensler commissioned Newmat to help create an ultramodern design for Nextel Central at the Las Vegas Convention Center, one of the seven fixed monorail stations. Newmat was the perfect choice of materials to complement the sleek, clean design. Aside from aesthetically pleasing, other critical aspects were for the materials to be light transparent, low maintenance and enduring. Newmat’s T0B/translucent membranes NewLight were used for custom lamp shades and a wave over the escalator which included a large back-projection screen. The same material created the compound curved shapes for the conference room.
