HLW International, which designed this new free-standing building, needed a ceiling system that would provide ambient lighting while achieving a high level of acoustical comfort. NewLight white translucent membranes were chosen to cover the 3,000 square feet of ceiling area in a coffered design. NewAcoustic Newmat's patented micro-perforation treatment of the membranes, provided the acoustical performance of the system. In addition, a large custom perimeter extrusion added a picture frame design to the 19 coffers giving them a three dimensional appearance. The ceiling design, together with the choices of woods, marbles, and stones throughout the floor space, gives The Gym a level of sophistication, unusual for this type of facility.
